This level of control over your audio experience elevates the overall enjoyment.
Comfort and Portability for All-Day Wear
Designed with user comfort in mind, the Sony WH-CH520 headphones boast a lightweight build and ergonomic features. Head-to-Head: How Does It Stack Up?
When comparing the Sony WH-CH520 Wireless On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones with the Razer BlackShark V2 X Gaming Headset: 7.1 Surround Sound, 50mm Drivers, Cardioid Mic, Lightweight, for PC/PS4/PS5/Switch – Black, a direct competitor, the Sony WH-CH520 shines in terms of battery life, offering up to 50 hours compared to the Razer’s wired connection, which means unlimited power but less freedom. The Sony also offers customizable sound via its app and multipoint connection, features absent in the gaming-focused Razer. However, the Razer BlackShark V2 X excels in gaming-specific audio with 7.1 Surround Sound and 50mm Triforce Titanium drivers designed for positional audio and clarity, making it superior for immersive gaming. Users prioritizing long-lasting wireless audio and everyday versatility will prefer the Sony WH-CH520, while serious gamers seeking competitive audio advantages should opt for the Razer BlackShark V2 X.
Against its same-brand alternative, the Sony WH-CH720N Noise Canceling Wireless Headphones – Lightweight, 35-Hour Battery, Multipoint Connection, Black, the Sony WH-CH520 offers a longer battery life of 50 hours compared to the WH-CH720N’s 35 hours. Both models feature multipoint connection and comfortable, lightweight designs. The WH-CH720N, however, boasts Dual Noise Sensor technology and an Integrated Processor V1 for effective noise cancellation, a feature the WH-CH520 lacks. This makes the WH-CH720N a better choice for users who frequently find themselves in noisy environments and desire an immersive, distraction-free listening experience. For those on a tighter budget or who don’t require active noise cancellation but still want excellent battery life and sound quality, the Sony WH-CH520 remains a strong contender.
Pitting the Sony WH-CH520 against the Logitech G432 Wired Gaming Headset with DTS Headphone:X 2.0, 50mm Drivers, Flip-to-Mute Mic, USB and 3.5mm for PC/PS5/Xbox/Nintendo Switch, another competitor, highlights different strengths. The Sony WH-CH520 offers wireless freedom and an impressive 50-hour battery life, making it ideal for general use and portability. The Logitech G432, being wired, provides consistent audio without battery concerns and features DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound with 50mm audio drivers, specifically tuned for an immersive gaming experience and positional awareness. Its flip-to-mute mic is also a dedicated gaming feature. If wireless convenience, long battery life, and everyday audio are your priorities, the Sony WH-CH520 is the better fit. However, for dedicated gamers who value wired reliability, superior in-game audio cues, and a robust gaming microphone across multiple platforms, the Logitech G432 is the clear winner. Is It Right for You?
Best For
- Commuters and Travelers: With up to 50 hours of battery life and quick charging, these headphones are perfect for long journeys or daily commutes where access to charging is limited.
- Students and Remote Workers: The lightweight, comfortable design and clear call quality make them suitable for extended study sessions or virtual meetings.
- Music Enthusiasts Who Prioritize Customization: The Sony | Headphones Connect App allows for EQ customization, letting you tailor the sound profile to your specific music preferences.
- Users with Multiple Devices: Multipoint connection enables seamless switching between two devices, enhancing productivity and convenience for those who juggle between a phone and a laptop.
Consider Something Else If…
- You Require Active Noise Cancellation: The Sony WH-CH520 does not feature active noise cancellation, so if you frequently listen in very noisy environments and need to block out distractions, a different model with ANC would be more suitable.
- You Prefer an Over-Ear Design for Ultimate Comfort: While lightweight, the on-ear design might not be as comfortable for some users during extremely prolonged listening sessions compared to full over-ear headphones.
- You Are a Hardcore Gamer Needing Positional Audio: For competitive gaming, dedicated gaming headsets with 7.1 surround sound and specialized drivers, like the Razer BlackShark V2 X, offer a more immersive and precise audio experience.
Final Verdict
The Sony WH-CH520 Wireless On-Ear Bluetooth Headphones stand out as a highly practical and user-friendly audio solution. Its primary strengths lie in an exceptional 50-hour battery life, ensuring you stay connected to your audio for days on end, complemented by rapid quick-charge capabilities. The ability to customize sound profiles via the Sony | Headphones Connect App adds significant value, allowing users to tailor their listening experience. Furthermore, the lightweight and comfortable design, coupled with multipoint connection for seamless device switching, positions these headphones as a versatile, mid-range option for everyday use.
However, it’s important to acknowledge that the Sony WH-CH520 makes certain trade-offs. The absence of active noise cancellation means it won’t block out ambient noise as effectively as higher-end models, which might be a drawback for those who frequent very noisy environments. Additionally, while comfortable, the on-ear design might not appeal to everyone for extremely long listening sessions, where some users prefer the full ear coverage of over-ear headphones. These considerations are key when evaluating if these headphones align with your specific needs.
Ultimately, the Sony WH-CH520 is an excellent choice for individuals seeking reliable wireless headphones with outstanding battery life, good sound quality, and essential smart features for daily use. It’s particularly well-suited for commuters, students, and remote workers who need a dependable audio companion without breaking the bank. If active noise cancellation is not a top priority, and you value comfort, portability, and extended listening times, these headphones offer compelling value compared to many alternatives on the market.

The Sony WH-CH720N are wireless over-ear headphones that bring premium noise-canceling technology to a more affordable price point. Weighing just 192 grams, they are Sony's lightest noise-canceling headphones yet, making them exceptionally comfortable for extended listening sessions. The dual noise sensor technology, powered by the Integrated Processor V1, effectively reduces ambient noise so you can focus on your music or calls without distraction.

The headphones also support multipoint connection, allowing you to pair with two devices simultaneously and switch between them with a button press. The adjustable ambient sound mode with 20 levels lets you control how much outside noise you hear, and the 'Focus on Voice' feature allows quick conversations without removing the headphones.
Call quality is impressive, with precise voice pickup technology using beamforming microphones to ensure your voice is heard clearly. Additionally, there is no active noise cancellation for the headphone side, though passive isolation is decent.
Overall, the HyperX Cloud Alpha delivers impressive audio performance and comfort at a reasonable price. It is ideal for gamers seeking a durable, multi-platform headset with clear sound and a reliable microphone.
