JBL Flip Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker Review 2026

The JBL Flip 5 is a portable Bluetooth speaker that combines robust waterproofing with impressive audio performance. With an IPX7 rating, it can survive submersion in up to three feet of water, making it perfect for pool parties, beach outings, or sudden rain showers. The speaker delivers 20 watts of power through a racetrack-shaped driver, producing surprisingly deep bass and clear highs for its compact size.

Battery life is a standout feature, offering up to 12 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. This ensures the music keeps going throughout a full day of outdoor activities. The Flip 5 also supports JBL's PartyBoost technology, allowing you to connect multiple compatible speakers for a stereo pair or a larger sound system, ideal for gatherings.

Build quality is excellent, with a durable fabric cover and rugged rubber housing that can handle drops and bumps. The speaker is lightweight and easy to carry, and it can be placed vertically or horizontally. It comes in 11 vibrant colors, so you can choose one that fits your personality.

However, the Flip 5 uses Bluetooth 4.2 rather than the newer 5.0 standard, which may affect range and power efficiency. It also lacks an AUX input and a built-in microphone for hands-free calls, which some users might miss. Despite these omissions, the JBL Flip 5 remains a top choice for anyone seeking a tough, waterproof, and great-sounding portable speaker for outdoor adventures.

The Anker Soundcore 2 is a portable Bluetooth speaker that combines rugged durability with impressive audio performance. Designed for active lifestyles, it features an IPX7 waterproof rating, making it resistant to splashes, rain, and even full submersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. This makes it an excellent companion for showers, pool parties, camping trips, and beach outings.

With a 12W output and dual neodymium drivers, the Soundcore 2 delivers clear stereo sound with a noticeable emphasis on bass thanks to Anker's exclusive BassUp technology. The patented spiral bass port further enhances low-end frequencies, ensuring beats hit hard without distortion even at higher volumes. The 24-hour battery life is a standout feature, allowing for full-day playback on a single charge, so you can keep the music going from morning to night.

Connectivity is handled by Bluetooth 5.0, providing a stable and energy-efficient connection to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. The speaker also includes an auxiliary input for wired devices, adding flexibility. Its compact, rounded design fits easily in a backpack or beach bag, and the simple button layout makes it easy to control playback and volume on the go.

While the Soundcore 2 excels in portability and battery life, it lacks a companion app for customizing the sound profile, which may disappoint audiophiles. Additionally, there is no built-in microphone for hands-free calls, and the controls are basic without voice assistant support. These are minor trade-offs given the affordable price point.

Overall, the Anker Soundcore 2 is a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a waterproof, long-lasting speaker with punchy sound. It's particularly well-suited for outdoor enthusiasts, travelers, and those who want a reliable speaker for everyday use without breaking the bank.

The BolaButty Bluetooth Speaker is a versatile and powerful portable audio solution that punches above its weight class. With a 20W output and dual drivers, it delivers crisp highs and surprisingly deep bass for its size. The sound is well-balanced, making it suitable for a variety of genres, from podcasts to energetic party tracks. The addition of TWS pairing allows you to double the audio output by connecting two speakers, creating a true stereo experience that fills any room.

Designed for the outdoors, this speaker boasts an IPX5 waterproof rating, ensuring it can withstand splashes, rain, and even a quick dip in the pool. Its rugged construction makes it a reliable companion for camping trips, beach days, and backyard gatherings. The built-in LED light show adds a festive touch, syncing to the rhythm of your music, and can be toggled off to conserve battery when desired.

Battery life is impressive, offering up to 24 hours of playtime on a single charge (at moderate volume with lights off). Bluetooth 5.3 provides a stable connection with an impressive 100-foot range, and the built-in microphone allows for hands-free calls. The inclusion of an AUX input provides flexibility for non-Bluetooth devices, though the cable is not included.

While the speaker is a fantastic value, there are a few minor drawbacks. The LED lights, while visually appealing, can significantly reduce battery life if left on constantly. Additionally, at maximum volume, the bass can occasionally distort, but this is typical for speakers in this price range. The lack of an AUX cable in the box is a minor inconvenience, but the Type-C charging cable and quick start guide are included.

Overall, the BolaButty Bluetooth Speaker is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a durable, feature-rich portable speaker for parties, outdoor adventures, or as a thoughtful gift. Its combination of sound quality, waterproofing, and battery life makes it a standout in its category.
